Maintaining a safe and healthy workplace is a top priority for VBNC. With the construction program in Labrador well underway, our Voisey’s Bay site safety team spent considerable time and effort implementing and evaluating its safety program in 2003. In November, we retained Dupont Safety Resources to conduct an independent safety audit of the site. Dupont found that while the VBNC site safety program was effective with injury rates lower than construction industry averages, there was room for improvement. We are presently implementing the recommendations of the Dupont audit and there is an increased commitment from site management and workers to increase safety awareness and reduce accidents.
